In an introduction to Consumer's Guide to Intelligence released May 28, 2009, David Shedd, Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Policy, Plans, and Requirements, states that "... it is important for consumers to understand the mission, background, opportunities, and challenges facing the IC (Intelligence Community)." The report begins by explaining what the Intelligence Community is and what it can and cannot do. It discusses sources and levels of intelligence; planning and direction; collection; processing; analysis and production; and dissemination. The report also details what role consumers can play in the intelligence process.

Intelligence Community Collaborative Plan
The United States Intelligence Community (IC) 500 Day Plan for Integration and Collaboration is now available from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI). As follow-up to the 100 Day Plan and the 100 Day Plan Follow-Up Report, this plan starts the next phase of creating a more integrated and collaborative Intelligence Community (IC) by focusing on six areas:
- Create a Culture of Collaboration
- Accelerate Information Sharing
- Foster Collection and Analytic Transformation
- Build Acquisition Excellence and Technology Leadership
- Modernize Business Practices
- Clarify and Align DNI's Authorities

Plan to Reform U.S. Intelligence Community
The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) has released a follow up report to the original United States Intelligence Community (IC) 100 Day Plan for Integration and Collaboration. A 500 Day Plan will follow and build on the initiatives identified and addressed in this plan.
